Classic Conversation with the Taxi Driver

“Good morning uncle to Parkview Square Northbridge Road please”

“Parkview Square, lah? Take ECP?”

(head nodding) “Mmm, Parkview Square. Not ECP. We need to go to Kallang”

(Turns taxi around and starts heading to Kallang. I am busy looking in my bag for my mobile which I have left again at home for the millionth time)

“Parkview Square?”

“Yes Uncle, Parkview Square across from Raffles Hospital on Northbridge Road”

“Ah”

(I have officially left my mobile phone and taking out my book to read since traffic is slow)

“So you want to go to Raffles Hospital?”

“ No Uncle, Parkview Square across from Raffles Hospital”

“Ah, Parkview Square. I hear Far East Square”

“No, Pack View Skweh” (You think after 8 months I learn how to pronounce it right!)

“Ah, Pack View”

Finally, we got it.

Yes, that’s where I go to work. Pack View Skweh

I think I will never stop laughing at your stories... hopefully you come to Bonn for transition in the summer uh? If you came here with us, you wouldn't have sunny pictures, but full of ice!

hahaha Mel! ahhh brings back many great memories of taxi driver encounters...I'd say it's more of a "PUCK-viu squeh" though. I remember once being taken to Dunearn Rd instead of DUNNNNN-man Rd. go figure!

:) my cellphone also spent lonely days left back at el palacio too hehe. damn morning rushes

Reminds me of my first week in China. We would all jump into a cab, and the conversation would consist of all of the foreigners passing a peice of paper with mandarin scribbled on it to the driver and hoping we get dropped off at the right location.

I say it is the room you sleep in the one that creates a micro ambient that makes you forget the phone (Look at Tee's suituation before). However, now that I think of it: do taxis also create that micro-ambient? :):)
